SYNOPSIS

Based on true events, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, a young man who inherits his father’s failing shoe factory. Traditional shoes are no longer selling, and while desperately trying to save his workers’ livelihoods, he meets the drag queen Lola by chance, and becomes aware of the problem drag performers have with their shoes: traditional high-heeled shoes are not made to carry the weight of a man’s body.

Seeing this as a potential solution, Charlie’s factory starts manufacturing a line of sturdy, high-heeled fashion boots specifically for drag performers. While some factory workers are not too comfortable with this new development, and facing many challenges, Charlie, who has now befriended Lola, and finds that they have much more in common than what was previously believed, is making a massive success out of his new venture.

Kinky Boots is a feel-good, vibrant celebration of diversity, acceptance, otherworldly sequins and feathers, expectations, and unusual friendships formed under unusual circumstances.

“You’ll come away from this production uplifted and emotional: it’s a human story that resonates whether set in Liverpool, Milan, or Cardiff.” – Buzz Magazine

“If you like your musicals glam and glitzy, loud and brassy, fast and furious, smothered in sequins and glitter, then Kinky Boots is for you.” – British Theatre Guide

Von’Du”, alongside the incredible talents of Noah Silverman (The Book of Mormon, The Prom, On The Town, A Curious Incident…, AIDA Cruises) as Charlie Price, Sophia Gunter (Legally Blonde, Singin’ In The Rain, Million Dollar Quartet, Chicago) as Lauren, Jason Daniel Chacon as Don, Emma Dean as Nicola, Blake Du Bois as Harry, Val Moranto as Trish, Dominic Pagliaro as Mr. Price, and Kyle Williamson as Richard Bailey.

“A dazzling display of heart, humour, and high-heeled glamour.” – A Young(ish) Perspective

HISTORY & LEGACY

Based on the 2005 British film of the same name, Kinky Boots’s stage version was conceptualized in 2006 by playwright Harvey Fierstein and global pop icon Cyndi Lauper. The original production stepped onto the stage in October 2012 at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago to much critical acclaim.

Kinky Boots hit the Broadway circuit in April 2013 at the Al Hirschfield Theatre, completing its well-received 6-year run in 2019. Starting out as an underdog, Kinky Boots quickly rose to the top like cream in a fresh barrel of milk, earning no less than a Drama League Award, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Drama Desk Award, six Tony Awards including ‘Best Musical’, ‘Best Original Score’, and ‘Best Choreography’, an Artios Award, a Grammy Award, an Evening Standard Award, and three Laurence Olivier Awards.
