Back To The Future – Theatrical Production at Sarofim Hall

Going back in time to the 20th century, specifically the 1980s and 1950s, The stage adaptation, Back To The Future, features the thrilling storyline from the previous 1980s film and was also brought to life by the movie's makers, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. The high-energy and colorfully loud show tells the story of Marty McFly, who accidentally discovers time travel.

The show begins as Marty McFly goes through a normal day in a young man's lifestyle, slacking around (especially in his music group) and spending time with his girlfriend, Jennifer, all while continuously being quite curious of everything he encounters. His inquisitive spirit becomes his very own inconvenience, as upon connecting with Doc Brown on a fateful night, Brown announces that has succeeded in making his transtemporal device (which in truth, is the DeLorean) function. An unexpected event that takes place on that day causes Marty McFly to accidentally turn on the car, shocking him and transporting him back to three decades ago in 1955. Originally confused with the different changes he starts seeing, Marty in time realizes that to make his way back to his own time, he must also drive history, and his mother and father who have yet to fall in love, back to what actually happened.

With similar creatives from the film it was based on, each set of the musical serves as respect and acknowledgment of the set designs from the movie, incorporating Doc's lab, the McFly's house, Hill Valley High School, and several locales in the Hill Valley community. Both the stage and outfit design also stay true to the decades they represent. The musical's shift to the West End platform gave another avenue for audiences to see one of the leading franchises of all time, while applying adjustments and improvements only achievable in a live theater production.
