The musical on plain language is about growing old before growing up, starred by Victoria Clark, the musical is about the journey of a girl striving to create happiness and belonging in an unfortunate life.
The musical took an abroad perspective on mortality, youth, nature of time, and self. Although Kimberly’s condition is quite rare her story isn’t that hard to relate to. The struggles she went through, and the life she dreams of having are typical of a teenager, which makes her an relatable, inspiring, and brave role, for many.

Kimberly is a Girl trapped in a 72-year-old elderly lady, and a teen trying to live every day as its the last. Following having a talk with a friend, And getting the answer “Oh, she’s amazing—she’s like this little old woman trapped in a baby’s body”, David Lindsay-Abaire thought of "Kimberly Akimbo" for the first time.
Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that premiered Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club New York City on February 4, 2003. Starred by Victoria Clark, and Directed by Jessica Stone, well known for his ablity for marrying humor and hard reality.
The story took place in 1999 in suburban New Jersey, a teen called Kimberly was born with a disorder that made her age four and a half times than she actually is. Struggling with a terrifying reality to experience mortality and adolescence simulataniously.
Unlike the rare clinical condition, she is struggling with, Kimberly is rarely seen taken care of in her life, in fact, you will see her compassionately consumed by her family’s irresponsibility, which places her in various emotional pressures including psychological strain, financial troubles, social isolation, and the need for belongingness. Despite this, she demonstrates great resilience, empathy, determination, courage, and managing to keep her humor.
Largly acknowledged for provoking fundamental dilemmas about mortality, indvidiuality, and family.
The show has the power to extract the social outcast in all of us, the misfit we were all at some point and the origin story of what we are today.
