Parade The Musical

The true story of Leo Frank is familiar to most: It is 1913, and a young Jewish American couple is faced with many hardships when the husband, Leo Frank, is wrongfully convicted for the murder of a 13-year old factory worker.

As a result of a flawed trial fuelled by division, prejudice, mob mentality, and misinformation, Leo Frank is incarcerated, and eventually lynched. This regrettable true event shaped the establishment of Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights organization, and on the opposite end, the Ku Klux Klan.

Even though Leo Frank’s tale is heart-wrenching and sometimes shocking, ‘Parade’ is art at its very best, delving into faith, humanity, and devotion, and is guaranteed to leave you pondering on it long after the curtain falls.

Not only does it deliver powerful social commentary, but also reminds of the power of art to question, elucidate, and reflect. No audience member has ever left ‘Parade’ unchanged and unmoved, goes to bed without thinking about the relevance of this tale, and nonchalant about what they have just witnessed.

Awards and recognition

When Alfred Uhry’s magnificent book, Jason Robert Brown’s exceptional music and lyrics, and Michael Arden’s direction came together in a gorgeous hotpot of true art, the phenomenally layered, emotional, and passionate ‘Parade’ was born. Anybody and everybody that have experienced ‘Parade’ live on stage are in agreement - ‘Parade’ is eerily timeless, oozing in social commentary, yet exerts nothing but power, passion, and purpose.

If you were still wondering whether it would be worth it, let the colossal amounts of accolades do the talking. To date ‘Parade’ has received four Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards, among plenty of nominations.

What to expect

From the precision in portraying some heavy thematic material to the magnificent score moving from heartfelt to showstopper in the blink of an eye; from the visually appealing imagery to the charisma and all round exceptional performances by the acclaimed cast; from the captivating story; to the bits of razzle dazzle that adds to the experience as a whole - ‘Parade’ is marching on, and long afterwards you’ll think about how the outcome of it can be changed for people today.
