Some Like It Hot at Sarofim Hall

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was everywhere, "Some Like It Hot" draws comparisons to another famous Broadway musical, Chicago. Jazz elements enhance the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy gigs. Their lives face a comical turn wrench when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled venue and need to disguise themselves as female musicians to protect their identities from the mob. 

Joe reinvents himself as Josephine, while Jerry transforms into Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a pivotal part of their story as the two men hope to romance her without getting caught. The adventure each character faces many tests of their strengths and teaches them unexpected lessons about themselves. 

If the story sounds familiar, it's because "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway reenactment of the 1959 movie of the same name, which starred film icons Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The film was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most influential movies in American cinema. The movie earned three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was chosen to be in the first class of 25 films chosen by the US National Film Registry for preservation.

The film's widespread success led it to become the foundation for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s, and eventually, the 2022 Broadway adaptation. Audiences express fanfare over the show and hurry to secure tickets for showings at Sarofim Hall and other theaters. "Some Like It Hot" features music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Marc Wittman, the hitmakers behind numerous hit musicals like "Hairspray" and "Catch Me If You Can."
