The story follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, starting in the present day with Westenberg sitting in a therapist’s office. As Diamond, he details how he can no longer make music like he used to while the doctor helps him navigate the trials brought by this reality throughout A Beautiful Noise. The production goes back to Diamond's Brooklyn childhood, showing his introduction to music and all the good and bad times since then, including his journey to stardom and struggle with depression. The Neil Diamond Musical is headed by lauded veteran director Michael Mayer and employs a widely regarded book by BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker Anthony McCarten.
Brimming with dazzling songs, dance, and theatrics, this jukebox musical portrays the exclusive off-stage stories of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Neil Diamond.
The artist himself strictly cooperated with the production team to retain its verity, staunchly advocating awareness for mental health with a narrative framed through Neil’s therapy sessions. Eager fans are also in for a thrilling treat as the musical presents some of his Billboard-breaking hits, such as “Solitary Man,” “Cherry, Cherry,” and “Song Sung Blue.”
Fronting A Beautiful Noise’s world-class cast are lead actors Nick Fradiani and Mark Jacoby, who’ll be filling in the roles of a past and current Neil. Alternating, the two will lay out the subtleties of the artist's backstage and onstage personas, uncovering intriguing new viewpoints from his boyhood days in Brooklyn to his unprecedented rise to global fame.
